Gould, Samuel Jacob - (70), b. Connecticut, United States It is strongly believed that Samuel Gould, age 70, was the rescuer "Bro. Gould" mentioned in the Willie handcart company emigrating journal on November 3, 1856. Although he lived in Southern Utah at the time, a land bounty application places him in Salt Lake City in October 1856. Samuel was a member of the Mormon Battalion at age 60. He traveled between Utah and California twice during the decade of his 60s. It appears his last travel to Utah was in 1862 when he was returning from a mission. He was then 75 years old.

Sanderson, Henry Weeks - (27), b. Stafford, New York Tribute by a grandson, posted on familysearch 7/11/2020: My Grandpa Henry My great great grandfather on my mother’s side was Henry Weeks Sanderson. He grew up in Nauvoo and lived two doors down from the Prophet Joseph Smith’s family. Sidney Rigdon lived between them. He used to play ball with the Prophet as a boy and loved him with all his heart. Henry helped work on the Nauvoo Temple. When Henry was 17 years old he signed up with the Mormon Battalion. He ended up going with the sick to Pueblo, Colorado and then helped several wagon trains of pioneers across the plains. When Brigham Young called for rescue parties to go bail out the Willie and Martin Handcart Companies who were starving and freezing to death in an early winter storm, Grandpa Henry was one of the courageous and obedient who responded quickly to the call and rushed to their aid. He eventually died firm in the faith in 1896 in Fairview, Sanpete County, Utah.
